How I got here, and why KEC exists
I came into solar the same way a lot of my customers came into it: not knowing much, and wary of being sold. A business partner, Kevin, changed that. Kevin had just left the Air Force as a major, his was the first family to welcome mine to Colorado Springs, and he happened to be one of the sharpest engineers I'd ever met. We had his engineering, my background running projects and sales, and a shared idea that we could do this better than what was out there. That became Aim High Solar.
For eight years I co-owned and ran the sales and business side of Aim High Solar. I sat at more than 300 kitchen tables and closed over 150 of them. I wasn't a manager watching numbers on a screen. I was the person across from the homeowner, explaining what they were actually buying and why.
That's where I saw the problem that built KEC.
Part of my job was reviewing other companies' proposals with customers. Over and over, the same tricks: production numbers quietly inflated or lowballed to make the math work, savings figures that didn't survive a second look, gimmicks dressed up as deals, and dealer fees buried where nobody would think to check. Customers couldn't see it because nobody had taught them how to look. The industry wasn't just failing those people. It was poisoning the well for every honest company in it.
I spent eight years doing it the other way, and twenty-four years before that learning how. Four years active duty in the Air Force in telecommunications, then twenty years of government service supporting the Air Force mission, EUCOM in England and Germany, then the Missile Defense Agency at Schriever. The job titles were telecom and IT project management. The actual skill, the one that ran through all of it, was taking something complicated and making it make sense to someone who didn't live in it. Commanders who needed to grasp a system outside their lane. Homeowners who needed the truth about their roof. Sales reps who needed to learn how to close without lying. Same craft, three decades, different rooms.
It's no accident that Aim High ran on the words Integrity, Service, Excellence. That's the Air Force I served, and it's the standard I bring to KEC.
Who I do this for
If you're a homeowner or business owner looking at solar, I'm the person who reads the proposal with you and tells you what's real. No quota, no dog in the fight, just the experience to spot the games and the patience to explain what you're actually signing.
If you're an established trade, electrical, roofing, or otherwise, I help you build a solar division the right way, ethically and profitably, so two trades live under one roof without the corners that give this industry its reputation. You get the years I spent learning what works and what blows up, without paying the tuition I paid.
Aim High Solar has closed its doors. The experience didn't. That's what KEC is for.
